From 1920 on, the modern woman emerged in Japan. Know as modan gaaru, or Moga for short, to translate the english word "Modern Girl" she was a free spirit, liberated and westernized, venturing out in the trendiest places of her time. The large department store became the playground of this trendy girl where she could shop and find the attributes to her carefully cultivated modern image.
